Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 Walkthrough Part 1: Prologue ~ First Gym Badge
Prologue & Player Setup
This playthrough will be based on Pokémon White 2 version. As the game starts, Professor Juniper introduces the prologue, marking the beginning of your new adventure.
Professor Juniper appears on the screen, officially starting your journey.
The main character’s name will be set to [Miru] for this playthrough.
Finally, it’s time to go and receive your starter Pokémon!
At the lookout tower, Bianca appears and you can make your big choice: select your starter Pokémon.
Choosing Your Starter & First Rival Battle
- Fire-type: Tepig
- Grass-type: Snivy
- Water-type: Oshawott
After choosing your preferred starter, you also receive the Pokédex. Immediately afterward, your rival challenges you to your first battle, using the Pokémon with a type advantage.
With the Pokédex in hand, the first battle against your rival is relatively simple and designed as a warm-up.
Early Gameplay Tips
- Pokémon Center serves as both healing and a Poké Mart.
- Buying 10 Poké Balls gives a bonus Premier Ball.
- Obtain Running Shoes for faster travel early in the game.
After receiving the Town Map, you’ll head out to deliver it to your rival.
You meet your rival again and hand over the Town Map. At the Floccesy Ranch, you can encounter Riolu (the pre-evolution of Lucario), a rare but powerful ally worth catching.
First Side Event & Training
The ranch event involves solving the lost Herdier incident.
You’ll then train with Alder, while also gaining opportunities for early-game farming.
You obtain the Medal Box system, which functions as a collection feature. With this, you’re now ready to challenge your very first Gym!
The First Gym – Leader Cheren
In the first Gym, you face Cheren. Previously your rival in Black & White, he has now become a Gym Leader two years later. As always, “the guy in the Gym” gives you a bottle of Fresh Water to help in battle.
This Gym focuses on Normal-type Pokémon. If you have a Fighting-type Pokémon, you’ll have a much easier time.
Victory grants you your first badge along with the TM Work Up.
Afterward, Bianca gives you the TM Return, and more story details are revealed about the events two years later.
You receive the C-Gear and an upgraded Pokédex, and you also learn about the Badge Check Gate system.
Wrapping Up & Next Destination
With the first Gym complete, your next destination is Virbank City. In Part 2 of this walkthrough, we’ll cover the second Gym challenge.
