[Pokémon DP Guide – Part 2] Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Walkthrough – Oreburgh City (First Gym Badge)
Following our last DP guide, we’re heading to Oreburgh City, home of the first gym badge!
This walkthrough is based on the original DS version of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl. :)
You’ve made it safely to the cave called Oreburgh Gate, right?
Here, you’ll unexpectedly receive HM06 (Rock Smash)!
However, you can’t use it just yet.
Remember: In DP, you need a Gym Badge to use HMs outside of battle.
Finally, you’ve arrived at Oreburgh City!
A helpful boy will kindly guide you straight to the Oreburgh Gym. :)
As expected in any Pokémon game...
The Gym Leader is not here right now.
Let’s go find him in the Oreburgh Mine.
While exploring the city, you’ll meet an NPC who offers to trade their Abra for your Machop.
Try this trade to help complete your Pokédex!
You’ll quickly find the Gym Leader inside the Oreburgh Mine.
(Sadly, I forgot to take a screenshot ...)
Battle a few Trainers, then talk to the guy who looks like a Gym Leader!
Now let’s head back to the Oreburgh Gym.
This Gym uses Rock-type Pokémon.
Since it’s still early game, your levels might be a bit low.
If you don’t have a type advantage, brute-force leveling can still work!
Time for a battle with Leader Roark!
He sends out three Pokémon.
Surprisingly tough fight!
If you chose Piplup as your starter, this would’ve been much easier~
My Starly evolved into Staravia!
It’s a super useful Pokémon throughout the DP storyline. Highly recommended!
Finally! First Gym Badge GET!!!
Now you can use HM06 Rock Smash outside of battle!
As a bonus, you also receive TM76 (Stealth Rock).
Here’s a shortcut path, but...
You can’t go through yet since you don’t have a Bicycle.
Your ever-helpful rival tells you the next destination: Eterna City!

But since you can’t take the shortcut,
you’ll need to backtrack through Jubilife City.
Back in Jubilife City, you’ll find Professor Rowan and Dawn facing off with Team Galactic!

Of course, it’s up to you to step in and handle it!
Once the event ends, you’ll receive a Fashion Case as a reward.
Now, continue moving northward!
You can now use Rock Smash,
so break through the blocked rocks and proceed.
It might look like a rugged detour—but it's actually the easier route!
After exiting the cave, you’ll reach Floaroma Town.
Take a look around the peaceful town.
Here, you can get the Sprayduck watering can and TM88 (Pluck).
A new event begins—something suspicious is going on...
Although you can’t access the area just yet...
You’re asked to find a child’s missing father, who is being held at Valley Windworks.
To enter, you’ll first need to find the works key.
A nearby Team Galactic grunt is holding the key.
You successfully retrieve the key!
Now it’s time to return to the Windworks.
Enter the Windworks building!
Inside, a Team Galactic Commander awaits.
The scientist beside them seems to be the missing father.
The battle isn’t too difficult—victory should come easily!
And yes—he is the father!
Now you can finally pass through the previously blocked area.
Ahead lies a mysterious and enchanting forest...
Welcome to Eterna Forest!
You’ll meet a character named Cheryl, who will travel with you
and heal your Pokémon after every battle.
Perfect area for early-game leveling!
Reached the end of the forest!
You must’ve gained lots of EXP, right?
Just keep following the route ahead—
And here we are: Arrived at Eterna City!!
We’ll wrap up this guide here,
and continue from Eterna City in the next part. :)
