[Pokémon DP Walkthrough - Part 1] Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Guide – The Beginning of the Journey!

Pokémon Diamond & Pearl (DP) is a classic title that defined the Nintendo DS era.

In this post, we’ll go through the very first steps of your adventure from your hometown to the lakeside.

Let’s set off on our journey into the Pokémon world together!

Miru’s Pokémon Diamond & Pearl (DP) walkthrough begins now!

It’s the classic start of every Pokémon game

an introduction to the Pokémon Professor!

In DP, we meet Professor Rowan.

From Diamond & Pearl onward, players can choose the gender of their protagonist!

You can name your character anything you like.

I named my character “Miru”

Because it’s Miru’s Pokémon Walkthrough, of course!

Now it’s time to name your rival.

And with that, the real journey into Pokémon Diamond & Pearl begins!

The story kicks off with a TV news report about a red Gyarados.

That broadcast sets the stage for what’s to come.

While wandering around your town, you come across your rival’s house,

and they insist on heading to Lake Verity with you.

Head north of town and follow the left path

you’ll arrive at Lake Verity.

?!? There, you encounter Professor Rowan!

He’s the one who’ll give us our first Pokémon!

But without saying a word, he just leaves his briefcase behind and walks away!

Suddenly—wild Pokémon attack!

In this emergency, you grab a Poké Ball from the briefcase to defend yourself!

It’s time to meet your starter Pokémon!

⭐ Starter Pokémon Overview

🌿 Turtwig – Grass-type

Personally, I think Grass-types make the early game a bit harder.

But Turtwig is still a charming choice among starter Pokémon!

🔥 Chimchar – Fire-type

Probably the smoothest choice for progressing through the story.

When it evolves, it becomes a Fire/Fighting-type with great battle power!

💧 Piplup – Water-type

It’s a solid pick, but there are plenty of strong Water-types available in DP.

In the end, it all comes down to personal preference!

For a smoother walkthrough, I chose Chimchar!

We fend off the wild Pokémon and press forward.

Professor Rowan seems a bit stern…

Then Dawn (if you're playing as the male character) tells you to visit the lab.

The lab is located in Sandgem Town, just next door.

We also received Running Shoes for faster movement!

Heading toward Sandgem Town now!

And finally, Chimchar officially becomes ours!

We receive the Pokédex—

now we’re officially a Pokémon Trainer!

Dawn gives a friendly little tutorial around town.

(We already know all this… but still!)

Miru's Pokémon Guide Tips!

If you buy 10 Poké Balls, you’ll get a free Premier Ball as a bonus!

I’m sure many of you know this one already.

Now it’s time to head back home

and tell Mom that we’re off on a grand adventure!

But wait… your rival’s mom shows up at your house,

saying he already rushed off on his own.

Which gives us a new side quest—

deliver a parcel to your rival!

Next destination: Jubilife City!

The road to Jubilife is pretty straightforward this early in the game.

Once in the city, you’ll find your rival at the Trainer School.

Hand over the parcel and you’ll receive a Town Map in return.

Battle a nearby Trainer here,

and you’ll get TM10 (Hidden Power) as a reward!

A fun event takes place in Jubilife City—

find the three clowns and answer their quiz questions to get three coupons.

Turn in the coupons to receive the Pokétch (Pokémon Watch)!

Take your time exploring the city!

Just note: there’s no Gym here. 

You’ll need to move on to the next town.

As soon as you leave town, your rival shows up for a battle!

The battle is surprisingly easy to win.

Now we head to Oreburgh City, home of the first Gym!

On the way there, Chimchar evolves into Monferno!!
