How to Install Windows 11: The Complete Step-by-Step Guide for 2025

Below is an easy-to-follow guide for installing Windows 11. Whether you’re performing a fresh install or upgrading from a previous version, be sure to back up all important data beforehand.

1. Preparation and Minimum Requirements

  • USB drive with at least 8GB (for installation media)
  • PC with internet access

Windows 11 minimum system requirements:

  • 1 GHz or faster 2-core 64-bit CPU
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 64 GB or more storage
  • UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capability
  • TPM version 2.0 support
  • Graphics card compatible with DirectX 12

You can check your PC’s compatibility using Microsoft’s official PC Health Check app.

2. Creating the Installation Media (USB)

  • Visit the official Microsoft Windows 11 download page:
    https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11
  • Click “Download Now” under the Media Creation Tool
  • Run the tool, accept terms, and choose language and edition
  • Select "USB flash drive"
  • Choose your USB (8GB+), and the tool will create the installation media automatically

3. BIOS/UEFI Settings and Booting from USB

  • Insert the USB into the PC to install Windows 11 on, then restart it
