Pokémon Black & White Episode 17 – Sage Hunt & Volcarona Guide

1. The Sage Hunt Begins!

• Right after the first ending, you receive the quest to find the remaining Sages.

• The first Sage appears at the Dreamyard in Striaton City.

• Explore the Dreamyard and capture the first Sage!

• Reward: TM Swords Dance

TIP: Only 6 Sages remain to be found—Ghetsis is already defeated in the main story.

2. Sage on Route 17 & Larvesta Egg

• The second Sage is located on an island of Route 17.

• Visit the lab in Marvellous Bridge Village for extra TMs.

• Find and capture the Sage on the Route 17 island.

• Receive a Larvesta Egg (pre-evolution of Volcarona).

TIP: You can catch Volcarona (Lv.70) directly soon—hatching the egg is optional.

• Get HM Waterfall—an essential item for late-game travel.

• Sage captured, 4 more to go!

3. Relic Castle Sage & Volcarona

• The third Sage is hidden in the Relic Castle.

• Meet Professor Juniper, explore and capture the Sage.

• Obtain TM Calm Mind—3 Sages remain.

• Deep within the Relic Castle, you’ll find Volcarona at level 70!

TIP: Highly recommended for the Elite Four rematch. Save before trying to catch it, and use status conditions like Sleep or Paralysis for the best chance.

• Don’t forget to grab TM Earthquake in the area!

4. Sage on Route 14

• The fourth Sage appears on Route 14 (you’ll need HM Waterfall).

• Find and capture the Sage—only 2 left!

• Receive TM Flamethrower as a reward.

5. Sage in Chargestone Cave

• The fifth Sage is hiding inside Chargestone Cave.
• Capture the Sage—just one more remains!

6. Sage in Driftveil City

• The final Sage is found in Driftveil City.

• Capture the last Sage!

• With all 6 Sages captured, the Sage quest is complete!

Volcarona

• Appears at level 70 deep in Relic Castle. Great for the second round with the Elite Four!
• Save before you try, and use status moves for a better catch rate.

Key TM & HM Rewards

• Swords Dance (TM), Calm Mind (TM), Earthquake (TM), Flamethrower (TM)—all powerful endgame moves.
• Waterfall (HM) is essential and obtained on Route 17.

Capture & Exploration Tips

• Save before attempting to capture any Sage or legendary/rare Pokémon.
• Bring plenty of Poké Balls and status-inflicting moves (Sleep, Paralysis) for tough captures like Volcarona.
