Pokémon Black & White Episode 4 – Nacrene City Second Badge Walkthrough

1. Battle with N & Entering the Museum Gym

  • After battling N, enter the museum building.
  • Inside the museum, reaching the Gym entrance.
  • Meet the recurring "Fresh Water Man" and receive Fresh Water at the entrance.

The Nacrene City Gym is inside the museum—don’t forget to grab Fresh Water when you enter!

2. Gym Book Puzzle & Trainer Battles

  • Explanation of the Gym’s book-finding puzzle.
  • Battle with the first Gym Trainer.
  • First book clue (question).
  • Solve the second riddle, battle with the second Trainer.
  • Defeat the second Trainer.
  • Third puzzle, finding the correct book.
  • Final riddle and battle with the third Trainer.
  • Secret stairs appear.

There are four book puzzles to solve; battle the Gym Trainers as you progress and unlock the secret stairs to the Gym Leader.

3. Battle with Leader Lenora

  • Meeting Leader Lenora.
  • Lenora’s two Pokémon.
  • Battle against Herdier and Watchog (Normal type).

Lenora uses Herdier and Watchog (both Normal-type). The difficulty is higher here—consider training in nearby grass before challenging her.

  • Rematch and victory after additional farming.
  • Receive the Second (Basic) Badge!

4. Basic Badge & TM Reward

  • Obtain the Basic Badge and TM "Retaliate" from Lenora.

Defeat Lenora to earn your second badge and the TM "Retaliate".

5. Team Plasma Incident & Pinwheel Forest

  • Team Plasma incident begins right after the Gym battle.
  • Team Plasma steals the museum's Dragon Skull.
  • Join up with Cheren and Bianca.
  • Receive the Dowsing Machine from Bianca (useful for finding hidden items).
  • Move on to Pinwheel Forest.
  • Obtain HM Rock Smash.

6. Pinwheel Forest Farming & Chasing Team Plasma

  • Battle with the Nurse—she can heal your Pokémon afterward.
  • Farm EXP and continue the main story.
  • Progress along the straightforward forest route.
  • Encounter and catch wild Pansage (rare at this point).

  • Confront Team Plasma.
  • Battle two Level 14 Patrat and one Level 14 Sandile.
  • Successfully retrieve the Dragon Skull.
  • Reunite with your companions.
  • Proceed to Castelia City.

Walkthrough Tips

  • Gym Puzzle: Solve the book puzzles in order to challenge the Gym Leader.
  • Leader Lenora: Uses Normal-type Pokémon (Herdier, Watchog); extra training is recommended due to higher difficulty.
  • Basic Badge & Retaliate: Win the Gym to get the second badge and the TM "Retaliate".
  • Team Plasma Event: The Dragon Skull is stolen from the museum—chase them into Pinwheel Forest.
  • Dowsing Machine: Receive from Bianca; useful for hidden item discovery.
  • Pinwheel Forest: Frequent healing thanks to the Nurse, and rare chance to catch wild Pansage.
