Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 Walkthrough Part 16: Catching Heatran

Preparation & Route to Heatran

To capture Heatran, begin your journey toward Route 17. If Fly is unavailable, be prepared for a long overland trek.

Flying to Driftveil City

The easiest entry point is from Driftveil City, so start here.

The Long Walk: Driftveil → Nuvema Town

Cross the Skyarrow Bridge, pass through Pinwheel Forest, then Nacrene CityRoute 3Striaton CityAccumula Town, and finally arrive at Nuvema Town. Take time to collect hidden items, battle trainers, and relive memories of Black/White 1.

Visiting the Player’s Old House & Fishing Rod

At the original BW protagonist’s home, you’ll receive the Super Rod, allowing you to catch rare and powerful Water-type Pokémon.

Entering Route 17 from Nuvema Town

Surf west from Nuvema Town to reach Route 17.

Encounter with NPC Looker (Maxim in Korean ver.)

Meet the NPC (gym reference character) during your exploration of the island.

Collecting Magma Stone

Don’t forget the Magma Stone, a critical item needed for accessing Heatran.

Item: TM Telekinesis

Explore the area further to secure the move Telekinesis for later use.

Preparing for Reversal Mountain

Heatran’s actual location lies in Reversal Mountain. Head there starting from Undella Town.

Arrival at Undella Town & Rival Battle

Before entering the mountain, battle your Rival and earn the move Dive—useful for optional ruins later.

Rival Rematch

This is a great chance to level up your Pokémon and strengthen your party further.

Post-Battle Rewards & Preparations

After defeating your Rival, stock up items, then proceed toward the Reversal Mountain entrance.

Arrival at Reversal Mountain

Do a final party check and enter the cave.

Locating Heatran

Carefully move deeper into the area—Heatran is not far inside.

Encountering Heatran!

At the depths of Reversal Mountain, save your game, then battle Heatran. Prepare Sleep/Paralysis moves and plenty of Ultra Balls.

Capturing Heatran

Once caught, the Fire/Steel Legendary becomes a powerful addition to your lineup.

Key Tips

  • Walking Route: If Fly isn’t available, brace yourself for a long walk from Driftveil to Nuvema Town.
  • Surf & Magma Stone: Both are essential to reach and trigger Heatran’s encounter.
  • Super Rod: Collect it from Nuvema Town to expand Water-type farming.
  • Heatran Capture: Save before battling, inflict status conditions, and use Ultra Balls or a Master Ball if necessary.
  • Dive & Telekinesis: Useful side items that should be picked up along the way.

That’s the end of Part 16: Catching Heatran! In Part 17, we’ll cover more Legendary Pokémon captures and post-game side quests!
